Casting Results / Re: Results for Ulster Casting Club

There are no official results for today session as only 3 members where able to attend. When we got to the field the grass has grown making swinging the lead difficult so techniques had to be tweaked. The forecast for a south east wind of 17mph we got no wind then east breeze then it blew into our faces. So reels where set up and casts modified to deal with the difficult conditions. With only 3 casting the round came very fast so there wasn't much rest from walking uphill in the long grass, it was calf deep in places. So casting uphill with a wind in our faces it was decided to call it quits before the forecasted rain arrived, all the casts where in the 190y to 200y area. Unfortunately now I have to inform you that casting will be suspended until the grass is cut as it will be too long in two weeks time, once its cut I will let you know.

Today was a normal field day, in which your free to cast any lead and with the high pressure and little breeze it was a heavy lead day. With a North East forecasted we got into one of the lower fields, a slight incline from the oche but not too much, in fact it was almost flat. We did our best in the conditions even when the wind died off, it did come back but blew in our faces so we decided to call it quits as it was like beating a dead horse, pointless. There was a bit of craic at the start of the day when Stevie cast 200g on a old Mitchell 602a (I think) boy can it scream, I think there is a video of it.

Today was a normal field day in which your free to cast any lead from 200g down to 18g plug, but all of us kept within the 4 core leads. Now for the weather report, with high pressure of 1007mb and a cross court wind forecast we choose to set up in the upper field, this meant a sloping oche but casting downhill, the wind was to be west south west at 20mph gusting to 27mph, we didn't get it that strong but it did blow south west which meant it was down court most of the day. As the day went on the wind did start to veer more cross court and got stronger but rain was forecast too. So after a fun day of casting we called it quits early and as we packed the gear away it rained heavily and it still hasn't stopped. As for the casters there was 4 members today so the rounds came fast so we did loads of walking. Tommy struggled at the start of the day then changed reels and jumped 20 plus yards, told you that reel was holding back. We tried to use the wind to our advantage and Louis did just that with two pb's and he came close to a pb on his 3rd lead. Graeme was trying to do all 4 leads but couldn't keep the wee 100g intact, better luck next time mate. As for me I was trying out something new, well trying to get my arms higher and it resulting in me blowing up 4 reels from hitting the deck, good job i had back ups.

         125g = 217y PB

Today was our annual memorial to Terry Carroll of Zziplex fame, the TRC is where we cast all 4 core leads but one lead must be an off the ground cast. This year the TRC fell on St Patricks day, so with festivals planned all round the country the turnout was low as most members had family plans. So only 3 members turned up to do battle so the 16 casts went very fast. The weather forecasted a 6mph South wind, we got a gentle breeze with the odd 7mph gust but for most of the day it was still, added the high pressure the casting was tough but Stevie managed to get some fine casts made to win the event. As there was only 3 casters we finished earlier than expected which was a good thing as we packed away the rain came. We all opted to cast the 175g off the ground and the lack of practice with his technique showed for 2 of us, I was lucky to get a cast in court. First place was assured for Stevie as long as he didn't mess up the 100g which he didn't, unfortunately. It left Louis and myself battling for second but he had a nightmare with the wee 100g so I managed to get a good cast away and took second place. It was a fun day with some craic even if the turnout was small. The next event is due in 2 weeks time but we wont be casting as its Easter Sunday, so see you all in 4 weeks time.

The TRC is our memorial to Terry Carroll of Zziplex fame, its an annual event which sees us cast all 4 core weights, one of which must be an off the ground cast and all 4 weights count to your overall score. There will be 16 casts in total, 4 for each weight so please be early as it will be a long day. I hope to see you all there.

today was the members 175g event and the start of the club league, we had 3 members casting today as work and family commitments kept the rest away. The weather was beautiful, sun shone all day with little to no wind but that didn't hamper our daycaster Stephen from hitting a few fine casts, well done lad, one to watch as he will become a member soon. As for the rest of us we struggled, more practice needed but it kept the competition close with some great craic. The next meet will be the TRC competition which is open to all and that's in two weeks time.
